Fitting the Mount

Mounting Instructions

These instructions cover the Lightfoot II for Type 1 and Type 2 Savage 1895, 1899, and 99 receivers. Read all steps before beginning. Call us at 540-660-5234 if you need assistance.

01

Remove the Tang Plug Screws

Remove the two plug screws from the rear tang holes.

02

Remove the Rear Dovetail Sight

Drive out the rear dovetail sight from left to right using a brass punch or similar soft-metal tool.

03

Install the Dovetail Block

Locate the dovetail block from the parts package — it will have two .280" slot-head screws and one set screw installed. The block is slightly tapered; the bottom side will have a number stamped on it. Insert it from right to left and center it visually. If there is too much resistance, the dovetail slot may need light filing — a 6" Safe Sided Triangular File by Skinner Sights (skinnersights.com) works well. Once positioned, tighten the 1/16" Allen-head cone-tip set screw to lock the block in place.

04

Mount the Scope Mount

Position the mount and start all four mounting screws loosely — do not tighten any screw until all four have started. Install the tang screws first, then insert the front screws into the dovetail block. If needed, shift the block so the screws mate easily (remember to re-tighten the set screw if you move it). When all four screws are started, tighten the tang screws first, then the dovetail block screws. If you adjust the block position, remove the mount, tighten the set screw, and reinstall. Do not overtighten the dovetail block screws — the heads can shear.

05

Install Scope and Rings

The mount accepts Leupold Standard or Redfield Standard style rings. Use high rings for 30–40mm objective scopes, medium rings for smaller objective bells, and low rings for straight-tube scopes. Leupold rings are available at leupold.com or midwayusa.com.

06

Set the Windage Screws

The mount ships with two windage screws. If you are using a bore sighter, align these screws first — if they are off, you may run out of windage adjustment on your scope.
